Unveiled in SA! The Ferrari GTC4Lusso - Ferocious, and for Four

It was during a prestigious cocktail event at the new Ferrari showroom at the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town, where the über-glamorous new Ferrari GTC4Lusso (successor to the Ferrari FF), was unveiled.

South African motoring media were treated to an evening of opulence and sophistication, just like those who are fortunate enough to afford a Ferrari. Bathed in the modern showroom’s trendy red lighting, we sipped on chilled Veuve Clicquot champagne and enjoyed fresh oysters and dainty canapés, as we waited for the sheet to be lifted. So let’s chat about the real star of the show.

From the collective pen of Ferrari Design, the GTC4Lusso is a further refinement of the shooting brake coupé - the end-result of the concept car, with a tapered and streamlined shape.

“There are drivers who demand exceptional power but refuse to compromise on in-car comfort, sporty elegance and impeccable detailing”, say Mervin Eagles,CEO of Scuderia SA. And it is exactly this very discerning customer at whom the Ferrari GTC4Lusso is aimed.

The ‘Lusso is no family grand tourer, but a breathtaking, four-wheel-drive,12-cylinder, 507kW mind-blowing monster, with space for you, and three more of your favourite persons, as well as 450 litres of luggage space. Maximum torque is a whopping 697 Nm. The GTC4Lusso will reach a 100 km/h in a super-swift 3.4 seconds, and its maximum speed is a thrilling 335km/h.

With Ferrari’s 4RM Evo four-wheel drive system which is integrated with rear-wheel steering, the driver is enabled to “effortlessly handle the GTC4Lusso’s extraordinary torque even on snow-covered, wet or low-grip roads,” says Eagles. “The result is tremendous stability and masterful control that translate into superior performance”. In other words, the combination of speed, precision and grip should  be supernaturally good (we’ll let you know in due time)...

Being a Ferrari, the ultimate in craftsmanship is expected - and the interior is nothing short of enchanting, in the most contemporary manner. As for the layout; Ferrari calls it Dual Cockpit architecture - the front passenger should feel almost as connected to the road and the machine as the driver does, for a shared, yet also individual experience. The ‘Lusso features both a driver and passenger cockpit separated by a central divider, with comfort-orientated controls for both areas. The front passenger also has his / her own optional infotainment display with a multitude of functions.
