Toyota leads the pack - introducing new variations on their top sellers

On the back of a very successful competition where one lucky owner won a Toyota Fortuner after a series of challenges while paired with an SA sporting celebrity, Toyota South African invited us to experience some of those same challenges and to sample some new derivatives of their two best-selling vehicles for 2016.

Arriving in a somewhat cold and very wet George we were met by a fleet of SRX Hiluxes and updated Fortuner’s, and after pairing up we hit the road, or shall we say the gravel.

The forested areas on the way to Knysna swallowed our convoy as the rain pelted down. In somewhat treacherous conditions we ascended and descended the seven passes in and out of heavily wooded areas, and eventually found ourselves navigating the Knysna lagoon to our overnight stop.

In the first of our challenges we were given a box of mystery ingredients, and upon them being revealed, had just an hour to make our own dinner exclusively from what was in the box.

In a short business segment Toyota SA revealed the new derivatives and updates to the Hilux and Fortuner ranges. These being upgrades to the 2.4 and 2.7 SRX derivatives in Hilux, and an update to the Fortuner that sees all models being fitted with leather interiors as standard, and an upgrade fron 17 to 18-inch wheels on 2.8 and 4.0 models.

The single cab and double cab SRX Hiluxes are now upgraded to a wide body with wheel-arch flares and wider twider tyres, which the Hilux Xtra cab SRX models already have.

Day two of our challenge saw us trading out vehicles and making for a marina where the Hiluxes and Fortuners were left at the docks, while we adventured further. The Knysna Heads are a great place to test out the adventurous spirit of the calibre of people who purchase these types of vehicles.

Abseiling, kayaking and standup paddle boarding consumed the rest of the day before a brief trip back to the docks where the trusty Hiluxes and Fortuner’s awaited our arrival for a return trip to the airport.

These Toyota products do appeal to a large cross-section of consumers but one thing is for certain – those that choose the brand and these types of vehicles all have the same thing in common – a lust for life and the choice of a vehicle that becomes a family member.
