The Opel Adam Rocks is sure to become the new favorite
Opel Adam Rocks - 1.0T Ecoflex - First drive impression
The Opel Adam is no stranger to our roads and consumers have loved the ability to personalize their cars, over 1200 that have been sold to date is testament to this. Opel has decided to kick things up a notch and introduce the new Opel Adam Rocks to the range.
What’s different?
Opel have taken the very successful Adam Jam platform and upsized it. With the Rocks you will get what is basically a Jam that has had a whole host of upgrades and still retains the ability to personalize the vehicle to your unique tastes.
The Rocks now comes standard with a swing top cloth roof, black cladding trim panels, 18 “ Twisted alloys, rear skid plates, chrome exhaust tip, cloth and vinyl seat trim, silver universe interior décor pack and a 6 speaker Infinity Audio speaker system that is coupled to Opel’s Intellilink System that now comes with pre loaded Apps that work with your smartphone.
The vehicles sit slightly higher and marginally wider making the Rocks a bit difficult to categorize.. GM says that it owns its own segment, creating a look and feel in the CUV (Compact Utility Vehicle) segment.
All the standard features that you find in the Opel Adam Jam are still present in the Rocks, EBD (Electronic Brake Assist) ABS ( Anti Lock Brakes) City Mode power steering , Cruise control, Hill Assist and that super fancy Advanced Parking Assist. Another Opel feature is the blind spot warning system which when activated by a vehicle in the side blind spot gives a visual warning by blinking a small LED lit indicator in the side view mirrors.
The Drive
The Adam Rocks was a pleasure to drive and handled the urban cycle extremely well. The 1L 3 cylinder Ecotec engine makes 85kW and 170Nm and sips up just 5l per 100Km. This equates to just 115g/km in CO2 emissions. The 6 speed manual transmission shifted seamlessly and makes for a perfect accompaniment to the punchy little power plant.
I linked up my smartphone to the Intellilink system, opened up the roof, blasted some tunes through the Infinity Speaker system, sat back and enjoyed the drive.
Our route took us from wide-open roads, through town and even included some dirt road and the Rocks took it all in its stride. Its pleasurable motoring not just commuting. This makes the Adam Rocks a perfect choice for hip young trendsetters.
