The Most Valuable Global Car Brands for 2017
WPP and Millward Brown has released its annual BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands report for 2017.
A total of 100 companies are ranked and sitting in the lead of the automotive pack for 2017 is Toyota!
According to the report, the top most valuable automotive brands to make the 100 list for 2017 are:
1. Toyota
Toyota fortifies its status as the world’s most valuable car brand. It has a brand value of $28,7 billion and places at #30 on the full 100 list. The Japanese automaker experienced a 3% year-on-year decrease and dropped two spots in ranking from 2016 statistics.
Toyota also recently overtook Volkswagen as the biggest car manufacturer by unit volume. However, Volkswagen’s attention is split over its many brands (9), while Toyota’s production is more concentrated. The focus is on its core brand, with attention following to Hino, Lexus, Daihatsu and Ranz.
2. BMW
BMW has a brand value of $24,6 billion and places five spots below Toyota at #35 on the 100 list. In addition to having dropped two spots in ranking, the German brand also experienced an 8% year-on-year decrease from $26,8 billion.
3. Mercedes-Benz
Remaining at third on the list, Mercedes-Benz places at #40 on the 100 list.
The German automaker is valued at $23,5 billion, up from $22,7 billion and down one spot in ranking.
4. Ford
American automaker places 83rd on the 100 list. It dropped 8 places in ranking from being 75th in 2016 and having a brand value of $13,1 billion. Its value remained at $13,1 billion for 2017.
5. Honda
Honda has the biggest move from the top 6 automakers. It dropped 17 spots, from the 74th spot to 91 in 2017. Its brand decreased by 8% from $13,2 billion in 2016 to $12,2 billion in 2017.
6. Nissan
Nissan just managed to stay on the 2017 list, placing at #100. It moved down 8 spots in ranking with its value decreasing by 1%. Its brand value was marked at $11.5 billion and is now valued at $11,3 billion.
However true, brand value and rankings seem to differ from the 2017 Forbes - World's Most Valuable Brands list, and the Brand Finance Brandirectory – Global 500 Most Valuable Brands list.
On the Forbes 2017 list: Toyota places 8th, Mercedes-Benz at 17th and BMW at 21.
On the Brandirectory 2017 list: Toyota places 12th, BMW at 17th and Mercedes-Benz at 21.
Google and Apple take the first two positions across the board on all “Most Valuable Brands” global listings. According to BrandZ, Apple has a brand value of $228,5 billion being kicked out of its #1 spot by Google. Google’s brand value is marked at $229,2 billion with a 32% increase in year-on-year brand value.
