The Importance of Fitting Land Rover Genuine Parts
The Importance of Fitting Land Rover Genuine Parts
When your Rolex needs to be repaired, do you send it to the manufacturer to be fitted with a genuine Rolex part, or do you have it fixed at the obscure jewellery store just down the road? It’s the same with a Land Rover – if you have made the investment in a quality product, would you take a chance and risk the integrity of your vehicle?
Fitting Land Rover Genuine Parts not only extends the life and value of your vehicle, it also keeps your Landy running on all its cylinders, so to speak, with regards to performance and safety too - because all Land Rover Genuine Parts and Accessories are designed, tested and manufactured to be functional, robust, long-lasting, compatible, and to fit the way they should.
Tested for Toughness
How do Land Rover know their parts will withstand their customers’ adventurous lifestyle?
By putting them through a series of rigorous tests in Land Rover laboratories, as well as outdoors, in the harshest natural and man-made conditions. 1000-hour salt spray tests, for example, are conducted to test corrosion resistance and sealing ability. Off-road tests ensure that steering parts can handle real-life situations, such as wading through deep water, or even hitting a sidewalk at high speed. Alloy wheels are also subjected to a gruelling 12-week dynamic corrosion test with saltwater, as well as a detailed X-Ray to detect cracks. If the tiniest crack is detected, the wheel doesn’t make the grade.
Land Rover’s brake pads undergo stringent testing too, including 12 cycles of the AMS Brake Fade Test, where the vehicle accelerates from standstill to a 100 kilometres per hour, and the brakes are slammed until the vehicle comes to a complete standstill. Brake pads and discs also undergo intensive temperature testing in the scorching heat of California’s Death Valley and in the subzero temperatures of Sweden’s coldest areas. Then it’s off to the Alps to further test braking components on the most challenging and twisty mountain passes.
Even the exhaust system has to be put through its paces for a 1000 hours, on special dynamometer test rigs. This simulates all kinds of rough terrain, much worse than your average Landy owner would encounter in reality. The main objective of this is the best possible fuel economy and optimal performance. To withstand exhaust gas temperatures of over 700 degrees Celsius, the material has to be of superior quality.
Having the right fuel filters play an important part too, as poor filtration levels can cause problems with emissions, power, fuel economy and noise levels. Land Rover Fuel Filters undergo durability, corrosion and pressure cycle testing, and are closely monitored when crash testing is done. Oil filters go through a development process that include hours of engine tests being completed. From these tests, filters and and oil samples are analyzed to ensure that they’re up to standard. Oil filters also get the ultra high and ultra low temperature tests, same as the brake pads and discs.
