Suzuki Ciaz – Luxury on a budget

Author - Author

Suzuki enters a very tight market segment with the Ciaz. The four door compact sedan market is a tough one to crack with the market dominated by Hyundai, Ford, Polo and Toyota where value for money is fast becoming the biggest selling point but Suzuki has pulled a rabbit out the hat and created some magic with the Ciaz.

Interior

The interior of the Ciaz is a no nonsense affair. In the GLX model we had on test  full leather seats come as standard. The contoured dashboard houses the Bluetooth enabled sound system which also has an auxiliary input and USB port.
The multifunction steering wheel is also leather wrapped to match the interior and is tilt adjustable. Dual airbags, EBD and ABS are just a few of the safety features available on the Ciaz

The convenience extends further as all passengers are kept confortable with climate control front and back, all the windows are electrically operated and you’ll also get electric folding mirrors. It’s the small things that Suzuki has added into the GLX such as personal reading lamps, rear sun shade, 12v charging points and the keyless entry that set it apart from the others inside.

Exterior

The exterior of the Ciaz isn’t really anything to write home about, its subdued, toned down lines lend an air of refinement which make it good looking yet unobtrusive.
Up front the Ciaz carries large projector head lights which blend into the body panels, fog lamps sit lower down in the bumper while the front end is dominated by the chrome grille.
The GLX comes out with 16 inch mag wheels adding to the appeal outside while the refined looks extend to the rear end of the vehicle retaining the look of refinement.

Engine

The Suzuki Ciaz only comes out with one motor variant, the K14B 1.4l ,4 cylinder 16 valve VVT engine. The motor is fantastically compliant delivering 70kW and 130Nm and returning just 5.6l/100km this is only marginally up from Suzuki’s claimed 5.4l/100km keeping emissions to just 125g/km.

The GLX we tested had Suzuki’s 5 speed manual gearbox but is also available in a 4 speed auto.

Overall

The Ciaz represents a leap forward by Suzuki bringing comfort, style and luxury motoring to the A- segment market . The Ciaz isn’t a sporty car but it is a comfortable drive with a fantastic price tag. The Ciaz in full GLX trim will cost just R203 900 and you will get a 3 year /60 000km warranty and service plan.
