Slight Decrease in Fuel Prices on the Horizon

Consumers will be able to loosen their belts a little as petrol prices are set to drop by around 52 cents a litre on Tuesday next week. This may sound like a lot, but with the new taxes and levies being applied at month-end, a drop of only 12 cents will be felt.

An International surplus of oil stocks, and the Rand performing well against international currencies, means that consumers will have at least 30 days of relief ahead.

However, commuters shouldn’t get too excited as recent developments within the finance ministry could seriously affect investor confidence, plunging the Rand into a freefall if certain events should occur. That will probably see the exchange negatively affected, resulting in an increased fuel price for May.

At midnight, 4 April, the price of all grades of petrol will drop somewhat with consumers seeing a small decrease in fuel spend. The diesel price will actually increase, this being due to the all-new levies.
