SCOOP! SA pricing on all-new Audi A4 line-up

The all-new Audi A4 is now available from Audi SA dealers, sporting a freshened-yet-familiar look, and lots of new tech.

Audi A4 is an important car for Audi, being their compact sedan that has to play the executive and sporty cards in this very competitive segment.

Engine line-up

The initial line-up will consist of a selection of 4-cylinder turbo TFSI petrol engines, from a 1.4TFSI familiar from other smaller Audis like smaller sedan-brother A3.  The 2.0 engines come in 140kW for the front-wheel-drive cars, and 185kW with the quattro drive.  The 2.0TDI engines, matching the petrol’s 140kW but with more torque and lower consumption, is delayed for SA introduction.

Where the 1.4 base model has a choice of manual or 7-speed S tronic auto, all others are auto-only.  More powerful 6-cylinder engines like the 3.0 V6 TDI and the new Audi S4 high-performance model with V6 TFSI (back from supercharger to turbo) will be phased in later.

Tech

Very generous of Audi to make items like xenon headlights and keyless-go standard on all models.

Some engineering highlights included a much lighter body shell weight, and the Audi Virtual Cockpit is an option, linked to the optional MMI Navigation with MMI Touch.

Design line and Sport line

For the fresh Audi A4, Audi is doing away with the SE etc. naming, adopting the “line” strategy successfully implemented by its biggest rivals, the C-Class and 3 Series from Mercedes and BMW.  This means there will be a base car, or the choice of Sport line or Design line, each with its own visual distinguishing features.

Design line gets 10-spoke crystal design alloy wheels, high-gloss dark chrome for the grille trim and rear diffuser, and the high-gloss package.

Sport line includes 5-spoke Y-design alloy wheels, grille and rear diffuser in “twilight”, sports seats, and sports suspension.  The quattro model comes standard in Sport.

The S line exterior package can be bolted on to any model, while the S line sports package is available in conjunction with Sport line.
