SCOOP! Prices+scecs for SA on Fiat Fullback – a new player in the 1-ton pick-up market
Fiat Fullback a new 1-ton player
A new player has entered the 1-ton pick-up market, and it arrives from an unlikely corner. Fiat. Sure, many of us know that Fiat had the smaller Strada bakkie a few years ago, and has a selection of different sizes of Fiat panel van, from the cute small Fiat Fiorino to the Doblo and the big Ducato. But never before has the Fiat brand had a 1-ton player.
Fiat Professional
Fiat passenger car ranges in SA have recently been consolidated to the 500 series only, i.e. 500 and 500C, 500X and the 500L (with a single Trekking model remaining). The little 500 has just had a refresh, while the 500X is the cross-over offering.
Has Fiat’s focus in SA shifted to the Fiat Professional side (the name for Fiat commercial vehicles)?
To cash in on the popular 1-ton segment, sales-chart-dominated by the Hilux and Ranger, is Fiat Professional hoping to successfully enter this hotly-contested market?
If the Fiat Fullback looks familiar to you (bearing a remarkable resemblence to a Triton) you are not alone, and quite right – it is indeed based on the new Mitsubishi Triton, which has not been released in South Africa, yet. Think of it as the same similarity between a Ford Ranger and Mazda BT-50, where the Mazda is a reskinned Ford – the Fullback is a reworked Triton, and there is no hiding its Mitsubishi engines.
From city traffic to windswept work site, the Fiat Fullback is said to offer comfort, versatility and a reinforced loadbed for heavy loading.
