SCOOP! Graceful athletic Mercedes C-Class coupé in SA soon – prices released

A new Mercedes coupé is about to arrive in SA.  The new Mercedes C-Class coupé.  Prices have just been released.

It is into its 2nd generation, and fits in very well as the most compact and most agile, most affordable of the Mercedes 2-door coupés in the C, E, S-Class and AMG GT array. 

The new C-Class coupé visibly shares the C-Class sedan’s same thinking of elegantly classy and simple lines, merged with graceful athletic lines similar to the S-Class coupé, tautened into the most svelte-looking shape in its category.  This is new C-Class coupé.

Local line-up

At launch the full model selection of C-Class coupé by Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG will go on sale to an eager public, rather than a phased introduction of the AMG models later.  3 standard models were picked, and both AMG models.

Kicking off at the ascending end is the Mercedes-Benz C200 coupé manual at R 529 900, before emissions tax.  Does anyone still buy a manual Mercedes?  Mercedes still offers the 6-speed manual on its smaller 4-cylinder engines.  The “automatic package” costs R 19 000.

Predictably, engines are shared with the C-Class sedan, so this C200 coupé also has the 2.0 turbo 4-cyl.  Next up, the diesel model which forms the middle model – the C220d coupé.  This has a manual or a 9-speed auto.  Then, the C300 coupé with a higher-output 2.0 turbo engine and 7-speed auto.  No, the Mercedes 300 badge is no longer the reserve of the 3.0-litre, nor of the 6-cylinder.

Edition 1 tradition

Edition 1 launch models are now established as a Mercedes tradition.  It offers a selection of visual and equipment items, and those Edition 1 badges.  This will afford you the pleasure of being one of the first owners, and will also show others you were quick to get your name down on the orders list.

For C coupé (the Benz cars) Edition 1 gives you an exclusive interior of brown leather with turquoise decorative stitching – some may think this combination does not sound good, but try combining these colours in what you wear, and you will see it works well, being unusual.  The MINI Convertible Highgate was a special edition, which stylishly combined truffle brown leather with turquoise piping.  For the exterior, you get a unique wheel design in 19-inch, and the diamond (chrome tips) radiator grille.

Exclusive to the S model, the Mercedes-AMG C63 S coupé Edition 1 comes in designo Selenite Grey magno – a factory-painted matt grey paint.  This is contrasted by – you might not believe this – brave bright “yellow” sports stripes across the bonnet, roof and bootlid and along the side sills, and black wheels with yellow wheel flanges.  The interior is in yellow quilt-stitched.

A gap between 4 and V8

There is a gap between 4 and V8.  Currently there is no 6-cylinder engine option on local C-Class, though if the 450 AMG arrives, it would have… or will the C43 badge make a comeback (think back to 1st generation C-Class’s C43 AMG) now that the Mercedes-AMG SLC43 with its 270kW 3.0 V6 turbo has been shown?

-AMG C63

In standard or S flavours, the Mercedes-AMG C63 coupé and Mercedes-AMG C63 S coupé.  As replacement to the C63 AMG coupé that was the last to use the naturally-aspirated 6208cc AMG-built V8 (as celebrated by the 10 exclusive to South Africa C63 AMG coupé Legacy Edition cars), the new muscle coupés adopt the new AMG V8 turbo of 3982cc as found in the C63 / C63 S sedans and Merc-AMG GT / AMG GT S super coupés.
