Renault Duster Explore – limited edition price-buster

Duster sales

Thanks to its unique combination of rugged no-nonse-ness and high-value pricing, the Renault Duster has already been sold to 10 000 people in South Africa since its local September 2013 launch.  One could say the Duster kicks dust in the eyes of some competitors.

Explore limited edition

To mark this sales achievement, Renault SA is making 100 units of a new Duster Explore limited edition.

The model the Explore is based on is the Duster 1.6 Dynamique (4x2 petrol manual).  Distinguishing features added to turn into the Explore are a stainless steel nudge bar branded “DUSTER”, “EXPLORE” decals on the side of rear doors, painted black spokes of 16-inch alloy wheels, and black protective wheel arch extensions.

The Duster Explore also adds a rear-view parking camera, adding practicality and safety: moving into parking spaces, and a view to behind the vehicle when reversing.

The only options are metallic paint for R 2 500 and leather seats priced at R 10 000.  Paint choices are white, or 3 metallic paints being Platinum Silver, Black and Cosmos Blue metallic.  A pity that Renault SA did not bother to provide actual photos of the Duster Explore, issuing only these computer-generated images, so the actual vehicle is best viewed at a Renault dealer.

The Duster is often chosen by and recommended by those who need a lower-priced new SUV which can handle dirt roads and has good ground clearance, especially as the Dynamique trim already includes built-in satellite navigation.  The Explore entices its owner even more to go and do what its name says.

Duster price-buster

The current retail price of a new Renault Duster 1.6 Explore is R 258 900.  Hold on!  That is the same price as the Dynamique spec it is based on.  Nothing has been taken away – it still has all the standard equipment, and the 5-year / 150 000 km mechanical warranty and a 3-year / 45 000 service plan.  Yes, the Explore extra kit is free!
