Prices and specs on the big BMW Ms – BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M

The BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M international media launch has happened in Texas. These cars can already be ordered locally, to arrive in South Africa within a few months – we’ve got prices and specs.

The BMW X M twins laid new ground for the respected BMW M brand. The 1st in 4 new areas for BMW M division: SUV-type body, 4-wheel-drive, conventional torque-converter automatic, and turbocharging.

So, for their 2nd re-interpreted appearances, the power, mean-ness and technology have been turned up.  The 4.4-litre V8 turbo engine dives higher into the 400kW-club, from 408kW, to 423kW.  Torque has also been beefed up, from 680 to 750Nm.  Despite the first M twins’ ability to rush to 100 in 4.7 seconds, BMW trimmed them down by half a second, to 4.2 seconds.  In big SUVs!

Prices over predecessors are up, as expected:  a new BMW X5 M is price-positioned at R 1.657 million, and the new BMW X6 M understandably, as the sleeker sportier of the pair, at R 1.691m.
