Price+Spec news for SA – Mercedes-AMG GLE43 is a new mid-AMG SUV

The Mercedes GLE range already caters for a wide range of SUV buyer:  from the entry-level GLE250d eco-tuned diesel or the bigger-engined V6 GLE350d to the petrol turbo options of GLE400 and the GLE500 V8, to the recently-introduced GLE500e V6 plug-in hybrid… or the Mercedes-AMG GLE63 or GLE 63 S.

Is there space for a buyer in the market for the AMG looks without all that throttle thunder found in the 63 V8s?  Mercedes-AMG now obliges.  The biturbo V6 is now available in the GLE SUV, named Mercedes-AMG GLE43.

Rather than the smaller GLC43’s sporty diamond grille look, the bigger GLE43 takes a more restrained mature approach – the AMG Line exterior and interior styling will be included, with gloss black mirror housings.  Unique to GLE43 is a set of 5-twin-spoke alloy wheels in 2-tone high-sheen silver / gloss black in combination with the AMG Night Package (where some silver is replaced by gloss black trim) as illustrated in these images.

Performance is 0-100 in 5.7 seconds, from 4Matic all-wheel-drive and a 9G-Tronic transmission, with the gear selector placed on the steering column.

The mid-AMG GLE43 makes for an interesting alternative, at a uniquely price-positioned advantage, to other mid-range sporty boosted-V6 SUVs like the Range Rover Sport HST and Porsche Cayenne GTS.
