GLC goes AMG

The Mercedes GLC is selling well.  Anyone in the market for a mid-size premium SUV need to have it on their shortlist.

But what if you like the GLC, yet hunker for more power, more sporty looks, and an overall more dynamic driving experience… like AMG does?

It now exists.  The Mercedes-AMG GLC43 was created with this in mind, and debuts both the AMG model to the GLC range, and the V6 biturbo engine in the GLC.  You’ll notice the diamond grille, shaped quad exhausts, sporty stance and that AMG Line body, and bigger 20-inch wheels (the 21-inch rims shown in images you see here is a R 34 500 option, but make a big difference in the appearance – highly recommended).

This new 270kW/520Nm very able V6 engine seems to have become the staple engine in the mid-AMG range, as Mercedes-AMG drops it into everything from C43 to SLC43 to GLC43 and GLE43.

Look at the side of the GLC43 and you’ll notice the badge BITURBO 4MATIC, indicating the use of the biturbo V6 engine and 4Matic 4-wheel-drive.  The transmission is through the 9-speed 9G-Tronic.  This drivetrain combo makes the GLC43 as up-to-date and a superb all-rounder as you’re likely to find in the SUV group.

The GLC suddenly changes from looker to a looker + performer:  the GLC43 runs the nough-to-one-hundred sprint in 4.9 seconds.  The petrol average is a claimed 8.7 l/100km, with 199g emissions.

The Mercedes-AMG GLC43 makes a sporty SUV, competing against something like a Jaguar F-Pace 35t R-Sport or Porsche Macan GTS.

If you prefer the fastback shape of the GLC Coupé, it is likely that a GLC43 Coupé would become reality later, which you’d need to wait for.  BMW SA is not bringing in the X4 M40i.
