If you find yourself rather liking the looks, style and equipment of the C-Class sedan or C-Class coupé, though gauged the normal versions a tad too tepid and the C63 too hot to handle, wishing the V6 would return to the C-Class… your wish has been granted.

V6 back in C-Class

While the Mercedes-Benz C-Class range goes from C180 to C300 and recently-introduced C350e plug-in hybrid then jumps to the Mercedes-AMG C63, there is a gaping hole between the 4-cylinders and the V8 wild one, where a V6 turbo would slide in neatly.  You, meet C43.  The new Mercedes-AMG C43. 

It is the 3.0-litre V6 turbo as found in the GLE450 AMG Coupé and SLC43, taking up an enticing spot in the C-Class range thanks to AMG naming and aesthetic/dynamic trimming, and that 270kW smooth and eager engine with 520Nm for torque.

Is C450 the C43?

Short answer, yes.  If you’ve been wondering why / waiting for South Africa to receive the C450 AMG, now you know – we are getting the Mercedes-AMG C43.  It is essentially identical, save for naming, which now takes up its spot the new Mercedes-AMG way.  AMG badge on the left of the bootlid, model designation on the right:  AMG and C43.

4Matic + 9G-Tronic

Both the Mercedes-AMG C43 4Matic sedan and Mercedes-AMG C43 coupé 4Matic are fitted with 4Matic 4-wheel-drive, which means the abovementioned power can be put down well to get max traction and hence performance: 0-100km/h arrives in 4.7 seconds.  This is helped by the 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic, which in turn helps keep engine revs optimal, and minimise consumption and emissions.
