Nissan NP200 iCE – a limited-edition bakkie to stand out and enjoy sporting escapades

Following the “loaded” special edition of 2014, Stealth of 2015, and the popularity of this less-than-a-ton (800kg carrying capacity) easy-to-operate bakkie, Nissan SA is introducing the new “iCE” special edition model for 2016.

iCE formations and decals

For those wishing to stand out, the NP200 ice has artwork resembling ice formations, with white “iCE” lettering on the sides and rear outside, and on the door sills and seat backrest cover, inside.  Custom-designed 15” alloy wheels are only available on the iCE special model.

The new NP200 iCE is painted in a choice of Nissan’s Starling Blue or Bright Silver metallic paint finishes.  These 2 colours were chosen for their popularity and for the way the special “iCE” decals, various brushed aluminium fittings and dark tinted windows are contrasted against the blue or silver.

Aluminium features and usable add-ons

Aluminium features fitted to the NP200 iCE were uniquely created for this model, including the aluminium nudge bar and aluminium sports bar, both with a brushed finish.  The sports bar adds additional functionality to the large load bay – when you opt for the fitted motocross or mountain bike stand or want to tie down a couple of surf boards using the optional roll bar protector and standard 16 anchor points in the load bay.

The bay is also rubberised as standard, helping to protect against water corrosion, impact (causing potential abrasive damage to the load bay or to the property you are carrying).  Nissan also throws on a fitted tonneau cover, fastened by the popular side-rail method.  Rear step plates are fitted onto the bumper.

The NP200 iCE also features dark tinted safety film.  This treatment of the side and rear windows not only enhances the sporty look of the NP200 iCE, but it serves a functional purpose by protecting the driver and the passenger from potential smash-and-grab incidents, while reducing sun glare and heat build-up.

Rounding off the comprehensive exterior updates are factory-fitted daytime running lights, exclusive to the “iCE”.

The special edition features “eco combination” leather upholstery and rubber carpets – both are easy to clean following those sporting escapades.  

A special entertainment system (with hands-free Bluetooth phone connectivity and audio streaming plus a USB connection) makes the cabin a more inviting place in which to spend time.

Price for the ice

The iCE edition is based on the NP200 with safety pack, consisting of 2 airbags and ABS brakes, as option pack on the NP200 1.6i (the normal production model) costing R 176 900, but safety pack is standard with the 1.5dCi engine, priced at R 221 900.

The iCE model is not available with the stronger 1.6 16v petrol engine, nor with the higher-spec S or SE trim – it already includes some of their spec items.

For this you get the additional “iCE” items, and, as per all NP200, the best-in-class 6-year / 150 000 kilometre warranty, while a service plan available at time of new purchase is optional.
