New Hyundai i30 brings new design and advanced technology as DNA car
New generation Hyundai i30
The new generation Hyundai i30 is the DNA car for Hyundai Motor representing the core of the brand in Europe. Available in early 2017, the i30 is Hyundai Motor’s answer to changing contemporary values and customer preferences toward technology driven solutions, individuality in style, and flexibility.
The new Hyundai i30 delivers great value to single people, families, young and old. It is a smart and rewarding choice for those seeking an appealing design, an efficient and dynamic ride and a comprehensive safety package.
“We have listened closely to customer needs, redefining our offer to create a car for everyone. The new generation i30 is our DNA car in Europe: accessible, appealing in design with innovative technology and great to drive. With up-to-date infotainment and connectivity features we offer everything that digital natives and today’s customers expect.
The 3rd generation Hyundai i30 is built on the infrastructure that Hyundai Motor has developed over the last 25 years in Europe. It aims to continue the success of the two previous generations of i30 that have sold more than 800 000 cars in Europe since 2008, as alternative to the Volkswagen Golf, Opel Astra, Peugeot 3008, Renault Mégane, Ford Focus, Kia Cerato, Toyota Auris, Honda Civic, Mazda3, Chevrolet Cruze and similar.
Cascading Grille
Hyundai Motor is introducing a new design element at the front: the Cascading Grille – this will become the new family identity for Hyundai models in the future (not the cascading grille seen on the last Hyundai Sonata).
The new generation i30 is more than just one model – it will become a family of unique products united by a design coherent for every body type. The i30 family offers the right car for everyone – “for the ones looking for elegance, or the ones looking for exhilaration” Hyundai claims.
i30 gets new engines and dynamics
The new Hyundai i30 is powered by a range of small-displacement turbo-charged petrol and diesel engines (diesel probably not coming to SA).
Customers can choose between the 1.0 T-GDI turbocharged 3-cylinder engine, 1.4 MPI four-cylinder, or 1.4 T-GDI turbo 4-cyl. Mated to the engines is either the 6-speed manual transmission or Hyundai’s efficient and direct-responding 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The development engineers have defined the characteristics of the new i30 to have precise, natural and connected steering, with agile, responsive and predictable handling, giving a dynamic ride with good body control, without compromising comfort.
N
The new generation i30 family will feature the first high-performance model under Hyundai Motor’s N brand (performance sub-brand) going into production in 2017.
Choice of touch-screens
Smart connectivity features for new i30 means customers can choose between the standard premium audio system with a 5-inch capacitive LCD touch-screen, with integrated dynamic rear-view camera and My Music functionality, or the optional new generation navigation system with an 8-inch capacitive touch-screen, which provides Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Latest safety
The Hyundai i30 features the latest active safety features to comply with the highest European safety standards: Autonomous Emergency Braking with Front Collision Warning System, Smart Cruise Control, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Keeping Assist System, Speed Limit Information Function and High Beam Assist.
New to the Hyundai line-up is the Driver Attention Alert giving the i30 all available active safety features available for Hyundai Motor vehicles, and making it a car with an advanced safety package.
i30 1 and 2 in SA
In South Africa, the 1st generation i30 (the one with the high vertical taillights) was Hyundai SA’s 1st medium-size hatchback when it arrived in March 2010 (the same year Hyundai went big with new product like the ix35 and Sonata… and of course Soccer World Cup was in SA in 20-10).
The original i30 lasted a mere 2 years before it was replaced by the 2nd generation i30 in July 2012 (the one with wide horizontal taillights and the front like the Elantra) and then facellifted in August 2015.
The current i30 range is priced from R 329 900 to R 355 900, which is Golf/Astra money already, so if Hyundai SA is hopeful in making it sell in SA, the price for the next i30 had better be adjusted, to keep offering value… plans to bring in the new i30 have not been confirmed.
