Most anticipated new cars for 2016 – coupes

Which new coupés are the most anticipated new cars to arrive in SA in 2016?

Audi R8

Audi has already shown its 2nd rendition of its high-performance R8 nearly a year ago, so the new Audi R8 coupé would make it to South African buyers in 2016.

This time only the 5.2 V10 engine is offered (no V8) in 397 or 449kW for the R8 plus, with supercar performance of 0-100km/h in 3.2 seconds and a 330km/h top speed.

The wide, flat, muscular design is more edgy, with characteristic design elements of the previous model now more pronounced, and built around a new Audi Space Frame with high proportions of aluminium and CFRP.

BMW M2

The smallest first full-M model ever – the BMW M2.  It is a fleshed-out – physically and figuratively – version of the 2 Series Coupé, boasting a 272kW 465Nm 3.0 straight-six turbo with option of manual or automated gearing.  0-100km/h is 4.3 sec with the M DCT (auto) or 4.5 with a manual.  Dynamic performance in a small car with a howling 6-cylinder powerplant.

The BMW M2 is brewed from powerful stock, along the timeline of the BMW 2002 turbo, E30 BMW M3, and its predecessor, the BMW 1 Series M Coupé.

Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 Superveloce (SV)

A naturally-aspirated V12 with 750hp at 8400 rpm sums up the Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 Superveloce, or SV for short.

Less weight, more power and add-on aerodynamics is the SV recipe it follows.  Serious power through 4-wheel grip has the Aventador SV storming to 100 in 2.8 seconds.  Top speed?  350km/h+.

The technical parts have also been tuned for an even more sporty driving sensation.

Lexus LC

The first Lexus of its kind – a large low luxury coupé.  With a product line-up to compete against the other premium car producers, Lexus has not had a big luxury coupé.

The Lexus LC 500 will compete at the top luxury coupé market, with a 5.0 V8, world-first 10-speed automatic, and sharp Lexus styling.

Mercedes C-Class Coupé

With a strong uptake of C-Class coupé models in the South African market, the 2nd shape of the compact Mercedes 2-door is already available to order at your local dealer.

A good morph of C-Class sedan and S-Class coupé have created a car to look good in standard or AMG trim.  Models are from C200 coupé to Mercedes-AMG C63 S coupé.
