More premium feel for 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander

05 March 2015 – The Outlander, Mitsubishi’s premium mid-sized SUV, has undergone mild revisions for the 2015 model year. Geared at increasing the premium look and feel of the world-renowned SUV, the 2015 mechanical, specification and cosmetic adjustments enhance value and create an overall more superior vehicle.

2015 Outlander 2.4 GLS Exceed upgrades

Visually, the 2015 Outlander looks more purposeful with a new upper grille design, a black under-grille area and chrome surrounds for the front fog lamps. Silver roof rails and skid plates are off-set by new black wheel arch garnish.

A new under-floor stow-away area is now also available in the Outlander’s capacious boot where, based on customer feedback, the removal of the Rockford Fosgate sound system makes way for even more storage space. With seven practical, useable seats, the new storage compartment has also been perfectly designed to house the tonneau cover when all seven seats are in place.

Under the body, changes to the CVT have been geared toward reduced fuel consumption and better driving characteristics. A larger-spectrum lock-up range allows for greater driving pleasure and improved fuel economy thanks to a greater selection of theoretical ‘gear ratios’. Manual override is available for when the driver requires more control over the transmission, with paddle shifting on hand for a sporty feel.

Familiar, proven tech

Continuing with Mitsubishi’s established 2.4-litre DOHC MIVEC petrol engine, the new Outlander realises average fuel economy on the combined cycle of 8.2 litres per 100 km (obtained under ideal conditions). The all-wheel drivetrain features Mitsubishi’s Multi-Select 4WD system, allowing the driver to choose between three drive modes.

In 4WD Eco mode, the Outlander makes use of the front wheels only until such time as the vehicle recognises the need for torque to be sent rearwards as well – for example on a suddenly-slippery tar surface.

In 4WD Auto mode, four-wheel drive with automatic torque adjustment between the front and rear wheels is in effect and perfectly suited to dirt roads and muddy tracks. 4WD Lock mode increases the traction force to provide even better off-road driving ability – ground clearance is a generous 190 mm.

High specifications still the name of the game

The 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander continues with a high level of specification, embodying its premium nature with luxury items – all fitted as standard.

Highlights include Bluetooth with hands-free voice control, an electric tailgate, a rear-view camera linked to rear parking sensors, a radio/CD/MP3/USB audio system with a touch screen interface and an on-board entertainment system for rear passengers, a keyless operating system, leather upholstery, heated front seats, an electric driver’s seat, dual zone automatic air conditioning system, cruise control, a multi-info trip computer, automatic lights and rain sensors, an electric glass sunroof and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Safety levels remain high, with the Outlander carrying a 5-star Euro NCAP rating thanks to seven airbags, ABS with EBD and BAS, Active Stability Control (ASC), Hill Start Assist (HSA), ISOFIX child seat anchors and Mitsubishi’s Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body construction.

Warranty and service

The Mitsubishi Outlander is available as standard with a 3-year/100 000 km warranty and a 5-year/90 000 km service plan, linked to service intervals of 15 000 km.

The new 2015 Outlander 2.4 GLS Exceed retails for R 439 900 including VAT.
