Mercedes-Benz S500 coupé Night Edition – matt grey and gloss black limited edition
Mercedes-Benz S500 coupé Night Edition – matt grey and gloss black limited edition
After market activity on new C-Class coupé, S-Class cabriolet, new AMG GT roadsters and AMG GT R coupé, and recently new E-Class coupé, the focus circle is turning back to the S-Class coupé.
Fascination with the night
Mercedes seems to have some fascination with the night, as it offers a Night package on its cars, and even an AMG Night package.
It also had a Night Edition before – the previous-generation SL range was offered in the SL500 Night Edition during 2010-2011 as limited edition, partially signalling the final year of production.
Mercedes-Benz is extending its range of exclusive models with the arrival of the S-Class coupé Night Edition. This 2-door will be available on S500 from April 2017, and will be make its world premiere at the Detroit auto show in January 2017.
Considering the above SL500 Night Edition, could this signal the imminent facelift of the S-Class sedan (introduced new in 2013) followed by coupé facelift? Hopefully not, as the S-Class coupé is but 2 years young. Perhaps the S500 is chosen to let buyers take note that the S coupé is available in restrained-looking and more attainable yet V8-turbo powerful S500 – not just the AMG models.
Night Edition details
The exterior equipment details of the S-Class coupé Night Edition include its distinctive radiator grille with a single louvre in high-gloss black, together with 20-inch AMG multi-spoke light-alloy wheels. The exclusive wheels are painted black and feature high-sheen detailing.
The exterior mirror housings and the inserts in the side sill panels are also finished in high-gloss black, though retains the silver wave underlining the front bumper, chrome window sill surrounds, and the chrome horizontal line curved atop the taillights.
Front and rear aprons with AMG bodystyling come as standard, with Night Edition badges on the front wings.
Selenite grey magno paint comes as standard. The matt grey you can’t polish, which looks rough but feels smooth (people will constantly run their hands over the paint to feel it). Mmm, one would think the night is not matt grey but rather midnight black or night blue?
The interior features engraved Night Edition wording on the insert of the nappa leather AMG sports steering wheel. Customers can choose from upholstery in leather, nappa leather or AMG nappa leather in black/black, or crystal grey/black, saddle brown/black, or Bengal red/black. A high-gloss black poplar wood trim comes as standard.
Boasting a stylish appearance, generous equipment and refined driving characteristics, the S-Class coupé combines modern luxury with state-of-the-art technology.
S-Class coupé models
The S-Class coupé currently retails from R 2.06 million for the S500, to R2.69m for the AMG S63, while the ultimate – the V12 AMG S65 coupé – commands 3.3 bar ZAR. Whether the Mercedes-Benz S500 coupé Night Edition will be available in SA is unconfirmed.
