Maserati Quattroporte with refreshed look, and revives GranLusso and GranSport

The Maserati Quattroporte is the flagship Maserati 4-door – it is a large luxury sports sedan… all rolled into one rare and exclusive package.  The name Quattroporte is literally translated as Four-doors.

Without altering its Maserati personality, the big 4-door car has seen a restyling, having enjoyed success in the 3½ years the current Quattroporte has been at Maserati dealers – in South Africa, the new Maserati Cape Town dealer officially opened this past week.  No opening specials here… sorry.

GranLusso and GranSport names revived

The cars, though, are all special.  The Maserati Quattroporte takes some names from the rich Maserati archive, and now applies them to their biggest car:  GranLusso and GranSport are names from previous Maserati cars, and are now revived for use on the Quattroporte, with “two distinct worlds”, reads the company statement.

Quattroporte GranLusso

GranLusso trim interprets the concept of a higher level of luxury using exclusive materials and the finest features in the tradition of the finest Italian craftmanship, improving in-cabin comfort and visual/tactile appeal for an exclusive high-style customer experience.  Not convinced yet?  Have a look at the images – the Quattroporte GranLusso uses the Ermenegildo Zegna Edition interior – that name was for a Quattroporte limited edition, by this designer.  The interior features a patented silk fabric (unique in the industry) on the seats, doors, headliner and sun visors.  The seat tailoring details and the label behind the sun visors make this version unique and exclusive.  Cabin ambience is further refined by exclusive open-pore Radica wood on the dash panel and wooden inserts on the steering wheel.  

Equipment is also comfort-oriented with items like power-adjustable foot pedals, rear electric sunblind, 4-zone climate control, heated rear seat and extended keyless entry.

Quattroporte GranSport 

The Maserati Quattroporte GranSport trim underscores the sporty character of this sports sedan.  A dedicated restyling of the centre and side air intakes plays the dual role of extra cooling and a more sporty-looking front area.  The lower fascia is linked to the grille with “aerodynamic inspired splits”.

The GranSport back is characterised by an evident composition between a centre fuselage and 2 side pockets, to focus attention on the exhausts.  A piano-black spoiler completes the rear view.  

To set it apart, GranSport spec is fitted with 21-inch Titano rims, red brake calipers, blue inserts in the front Trident and wheel centres and side Saetta badge. As an option, the front grille of the GranSport can be ordered in a glossy black finish.

Quattroporte new features

New features on the Quattroporte facelift include a front grille redesigned to be “more pointed and imposing, and it introduces new vertical chrome elements that contrast with the deepness of the shark nose effect”.  Maserati certainly gets excited about their cars.

An electrically adjustable Air Shutter has been fitted in the front grille between the air vents and the engine’s radiator, to improve air drag and thereby improve fuel efficiency.

A redesigned central dashboard now accommodates a capacitive high-resolution 8.4-inch screen with multi-touch function.  The central lower console has also been redesigned, and now features a rotary control for volume and functions, a new lid and a phone storage compartment.  The stylistic approach to these functional elements permits a minimalist design approach for the centre of the dashboard, rather than the busy/cluttered look in other high-tech luxury cars.

A new option package of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems is available in the new Quattroporte, which includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop&Go, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning with Advanced Brake Assist and Automated Emergency Braking, while an additional new Surround View Camera is available as an option.
