Lexus LC 500, expressed in short film

Lexus is getting set to launch its first large luxury coupé onto the world stage… and it is working up the hype through film technique.  The dynamic brilliance of the car’s design and engineering (and that V8 engine) are being celebrated in a short film that helps build anticipation towards the car’s market launch.

The aim is to give viewers an immersive visual and aural introduction to the Lexus LCbefore they actually experience the car in the metal.

The mission for the LC was to offer a dynamic driving experience, yet sought to maintain a superior Lexus ride quality befitting a flagship luxury sport coupé.  This car has to give the visual and high-class character unlike any Lexus car before, helping to drive the future of the Lexus brand.

Picture a Lexus LC 500 accelerating on a twisting mountain road… as it passes, its thrilling V8 engine note shatters the rockface, revealing a battery of pounding pistons and spinning gears, evoking elements of its mesmerizing 5.0 V8 engine and its world-first 10-speed transmission.  One scene shows a face in the mountain-side turn to watch the car speed by.

This film spectacle effort was gone through to herald the arrival of Lexus’s flagship coupé, and is the result of a ground-breaking film-making project that has shunned CGI trickery in favour of real-world projection mapping artistry.Multiple projectors had to be linked to create a seamless backdrop of images moving over the mountainside, timed to synchronise perfectly with the LC 500 as it powered along the twisting road.

Evocative projectionsalso focus on some of the design and engineering features that define the new coupe, such as its bodywork design, carbon-fibre roof and retracting rear spoiler.

The new Lexus LC 500 will go on sale in South Africa early 2017.
