Land Rover Series 1 Reborn – the original Land Rover made “as new”
To go all the way back in Land Rover history – the original Land Rover became known as Series I (1) updated through the years into Series II and III (2 and 3) before it was christened Defender, which is now the common reference to even older Land Rover Series models. The Land Rover Series I was the 1st production 4x4 off-roader.
Now, Land Rover Classic department offers a unique proposition: the Land Rover Series I reborn as 25 examples restored to as-new condition. Each of the 25 Land Rovers were hand-picked by a team of Land Rover experts, to ensure authenticity.
These 25 x Series I examples were meticulously restored to original 1948 factory specification, sourcing from Land Rover Classic Parts. This includes a choice of 5 period paint finishes: Light Green (the same hue used for the Defender Heritage Edition), Bronze Green (the familiar olive green as pictured here), RAF Blue, Dove Grey and Poppy Red.
25 prospective customers will have an opportunity to purchase an original-spec restored collectable classic: a Land Rover Series I, directly from Land Rover Classic. Customers will be able to be guided by experts to select their appropriate base vehicle, and follow the restoration from start to finish at the Land Rover Classic workshop at the original Defender production centre at Solihull.
Preservation of the brand through Reborn initiative by Jaguar Land Rover Classic

It also showcases Land Rover Classic’s expertise to restore and maintain loyal customers’ prized Land Rovers, and demonstrates the company’s commitment to support customers by providing original and meticulously-sourced parts for Land Rover models older than (out of production for) over 10 years.
The original Land Rover Freelander (production 1998 to 2006) also just joined the Land Rover Classic programme, and this is also bodes well for those seeking parts or restoration of other Land Rovers like the Discovery I or original Range Rover.
Land Rover Defender production ended
Land Rover Defender production ended in January 2016, and the final limited edition displaying honour to the international automotive icon (yes, this is indesputably an icon) was the Land Rover Defender Heritage Edition and Adventure Edition as per earlier news.
