Kyalami to Host SA’s Biggest Motorsport Festival

If you have petrol in your veins, there’s just one place to be from the 21st until the 23rd of October, and that’s at the Kyalami Motorsport Festival.

With big names such as AutoTrader coming on board as event partners, local motorsport is effectively kick-started again, reigniting South Africans’ passion for racing.

Kyalami, a once glamorous destination for local and international motorsport such as the Grand Prix (in 1992 and 1993) and the World Superbike Championship & A1GP until 2010, paled to almost white elephant status until it was eventually put up for auction in 2014. Motorsport fans all over the country were submerged in a deep depression, until help arrived in the shape of Toby Venter. In purchasing the track this cardinal piece of South African Motoring History was saved, to be enjoyed by future generations of motorsport enthusiasts. Plans for extensive redevelopment and refurbishment were immediately put into action. Alterations included a complete resurfacing of the circuit to international specifications, changes to the circuit layout, upgrade of circuit safety, improvement of all spectator areas and facilities, and redevelopment of the pit building, which now include world class conferencing and exhibition facilities. And it’s at this exciting venue where the biggest race meeting ever will be hosted, with a record-breaking 380 race entries received.

This Motorsport South Africa (MSA) sanctioned event, incorporating the Extreme Festival, will include the Sasol Global Touring Cars (GTC) Championship, V8 Supercars and V8 Masters, Regional Superbikes, G & H Transport Extreme Supercars, Engen Volkswagen Cup and Investchem Formula 1600 race series. Other not-to-be-missed highlights to take place, will be celebrity and media races. Members of the South African Guild of Motoring Journalists and select local celebrities will be competing for bragging rights in Volkswagen Polo race cars, to the entertainment of onlookers.

From 21 October, the Day Pass (for Friday) will cost you R50, while the Day Passes for Saturday or Sunday are priced at R150. Weekend Passes will be R250. Grid Walk packages are R100 (along with access ticket).
