Fuel prices – biggest increase

On top of the increase in fuel prices for March, 1st of April sees another increase in all fuel prices (and it’s no April’s fool joke) as announced in the budget speech.

The fuel prices are follows:

As seen from the table above, the increase on the Road Accident Fund (RAF) contribution is up 50 cents per litre!

This means we all pay daily for people causing car accident and crashes – a lot of these due to careless or inconsiderate driving.  For every litre of fuel you put in your vehicle, you’ll now pay R1.54 per litre towards RAF, meaning on a 40-litre tank you’ll pay R61.60 per tank towards RAF, and on a 70-litre tank a whole R107.80 per tank for accidents.

The government is also helping itself to more tax, by upping fuel levy 30.5c per litre, which will now total R2.55 per litre for petrol and R2.40 for diesel.

Other increase contributors include “average product under-recovery” of 79 c/l on petrol, the Rand/US Dollar exchange rate.
