Bakkies accessorised
The one-ton bakkie (pick-up) has been part of the South African motoring scene for many years. The fact that more and more people are buying these vehicles for both business and pleasure means that there is a growing market for accessorising them. Just take a look at how many Rangers get accessorised with Raptor kits.
Granite special edition
Foton South Africa has now developed a special edition of its Tunland double cab bakkie, which has plenty of show. Known as the “Granite”, it is clearly marked as such: Granite stickers appear at the bottom of the front doors and boldly on the tailgate. It has been fitted with black accessories and details that change the exterior appearance significantly.
The changes start with black Hazzard alloy wheels fitted with 16-inch Cooper all-terrain tyres. Then there is a black roll-over bar and black nudge bar, as well as some special exterior black finishes like its grille, fender arches and mirror housings. Paint colour options for the Granite are white and silver.
The interior is individualised with the model name Granite stitched into the covers of the front head restraints of the leather upholstery.
Price benefit
While the Tunland double cab consists of 4x2 (called “off-road”) and 4x4 models in Comfort and Luxury trim levels, the Granite is based on the Tunland Luxury, but despite its 4x4 looks, comes only in 4x2.
Importantly, The Granite is competitively priced at R329 995, being just R 10 000 more than the Luxury model it is based on. This does not even cover the cost of the extra equipment, and a bonus is that the Granite is covered by a 5-year / 150 000 km warranty, which is an extra 2 years and 50 000 km added in.
Cummins ISF engine
The Cummins ISF engine, which powers all the Tunland models, develops 120kW of power and 360Nm of torque, and is also one of the few power units fitted to a pick-up in SA which complies with Euro IV emission regulations. You’ll notice bold chrome Cummins badging on the Tunland.
Cummins is a commercial engine manufacturer, with its renowned engines installed as preferred powerplant in some heavy-commercial trucks.
