Application to buy Ford GT

Hold on – application to buy?  Yes, this is the limited-production new Ford GT supercar, so in order to buy one, interested buyers need to submit an application online, for the first 2 years of production, where just 250 per year will be built.

The application even has a deadline of 3:59 am GMT on May 12, 2016.  Ford will review those received.  Ford says the limited production inspired a unique customer-focused purchase experience, open to all – the application process will help to identify potential Ford GT owners “who will celebrate Ford brand”.  Once approved, suitable candidates will be contacted via a specialised Ford GT Concierge Service to complete their tailored purchase experience.

About the Ford GT

The Ford GT 40, the famed road/race car which got its name from a roof just 40-inches off the ground, has become a classic.  Ford released a re-creation as a modern Ford GT a few years ago, with Ford V8 supercharged engine, and also as a limited production run.

Now, in 2016, Ford is doing a new interpretation of the classic Ford GT, keeping the basic design outline of super-low front, low roof, swing-up doors and those simple single round rear lights.

There’s just one big difference – rather than a loud V8 as per GT 40 and recent GT, the new Ford GT will showcase Ford’s EcoBoost advances in turbo engines… so, shockingly, this supercar gets no V8 but a 3.5 V6 turbo!  Don’t worry, it will be proper supercar fast.

Pricing for a new Ford GT is “expected to have a starting price in the mid-$ 400 000”.  Don’t get too excited, though – the Ford GT is left-hand drive only, so will only be available in countries where this is allowed by law, meaning South Africa is excluded.

Configure and share

Even though you may not qualify to buy one, Ford encourages people to do a virtual build on the Ford GT configurator, which allows anyone to easily share their dream combinations (from a number of colour, wheel and interior themes) with the world, through social media.  8 paint colours can be paired with 1 of 7 dual sport stripes, or without stripes… but these centre stripes are a Ford thing, and looks so right on this car.

The interior themes are cleverly named:  Dark Energy, Launch Control, Light Speed and Re-Entry.
