Ferrari just took the covers off a sexy new drop-top model, the 2018 Portofino cabriolet. The entry-level model will replace the California T.
The Italian automaker describes their new car as the “most powerful convertible to combine the advantages of a retractable hard top, a roomy boot and generous cockpit space, plus two rear seats suitable for short trips.”
The new hardtop convertible V8 GT is powered by a 600 cv (unit of power used by Ferrari) which translates to 441 kW/592 hp and has torque of 760 Nm. It sprints from 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and manages a top speed of 319 km/h. It is fitted with Ferrari’s third generation E-Diff 3 electronic rear differential which improves traction and electric power steering. The Portofino also has an all-new chassis which, despite an increase in torsional rigidity, is lighter than its California T predecessor. In addition, the Portofino is the first GT in the range to be fitted with EPS (Electric Power Steering).
Its V8 engine was a nominee in the International Engine of the Year in 2016 and 2017 and puts out 30 kW more than the California T. This is achieved from the adoption of new components and specific calibration of the engine management software. The Ferrari V8 soundtrack has also been enhanced.
The Portofino also has full LED headlights, side air intakes to improve its air flow, and new circular rear lights. Inside the cabin, a new 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system can be found next to a D-shaped steering wheel, redesigned seat and air conditioning. Ferrari’s design team have also worked comprehensively on reducing wind noise from the roof inside the cabin.
This model is named after a beautiful Italian village. The Portofino will have its official debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show on September 6th. The launch colour on the car is also dedicated to the Italian town and is named Rosso Portofino. According to Ferrari, the town has become renowned for its elegance, sportiness and understated luxury which is what the new Portofino wants to convey.
