A new limited series of a limited series Ferrari… the new ultimate Ferrari hypercar.  Is Ferrari LaFerrari Spider to be its name?  Ferrari says their new car will be shown at the Paris International Motor Show, where its name and technical specification will be announced.

Following the Ferrari LaFerrari – Ferrari’s first hypercar using hybrid electric-boosting power – the open-top version has finally (after circulation of rumours and confirmations that it will be built) arrived in the real world.  Gordon Ramsay, on the first episode of the new Top Gear, showed a model car of the Ferrari LaFerrari open-top he’d been sent (he already owns the coupé LaFerrari) indicating this car would indeed be built.

The open-top Ferrari LaFerrari will be available with a removable carbon-fibre hardtop and a removable soft-top.

Aimed at selected clients and collectors, the new Ferrari LaFerrari open-top car is for those with money to blow… and those who like the wind to blow while driving.  Not too much, though, as the open-top car’s aerodynamics have been honed to achieve the same drag co-efficient when driving in the open configuration, and torsional rigidity is the same as for the coupé.

709kW hybrid!

The running gear will be the same as the Ferrari LaFerrari coupé, meaning an 800 cv (about 589kW) 6262cc V12… + a 120kW electric motor.  Combined system output is 963cv = 709kW!

The number of cars to be built will be announced then, and, in true Ferrari tradition, will be as many as the market would take, minus one – this marketing strategy to create demand for Ferrari limited-production cars, to make them seemingly unattainable (with a larger demand than supply, with the fear of missing out on buying a limited Ferrari car) was introduced by Enzo Ferrari himself.

The car was shown at a client private preview, with Ferrari announcing “Order book closes after client preview”.  So even you won the R50 million lotto, you would not be able to buy a new Ferrari LaFerrari (Spider?) as you had to be selected to become a buyer.

And can you believe it… the car is not shown in Rosso Corsa red, but in black, though, keeping red present with some red contour stripes.

Ferrari is going one further, by offering another limited edition of the limited-edition LaFerrari.
