Chery South Africa has provided four J2 hatchback cars to Gerotek for its advanced driver training programme.

“We at Chery South Africa are passionate about road safety and are involved in a number of initiatives in improving this situation, which is reaching crisis proportions if one looks at the death toll on our roads over the recent holiday period,” explained the managing director of Chery SA, Brett Soso.

“We believe that training by accredited instructors under controlled conditions is the best way to prepare drivers to face the hazardous traffic conditions we encounter every day and this is the service provided by Gerotek, so we are delighted to be involved with such a long established and highly respected organisation.”

The manager of training at Gerotek, George Dlangamandla, welcomed this initiative from Chery SA, saying: “The easy-to-drive J2 hatchbacks, which were launched on the local market last year, are ideal for our training programmes, which include a variety of advanced and specialised courses lasting from one to five days.”

Gerotek Training has a track record that includes standard-setting in the driver training industry and it has concluded many programmes in other countries in Africa, including Botswana, Tanzania, Madagascar, Lesotho and Malawi, while clients in SA include the SA Police Service, SA National Defence Force, mining industry, bus industry, vehicle manufacturers and distributors and a wide range of corporate clients.

Gerotek Training is accredited as a driver training provider by both the Safety and Security Sector Education & Training Authority (SASSETA) and the Transport Education & Training Authority (TETA), so companies whose employees have been trained by Gerotek can claim back their skills levy.

Gerotek’s training courses include five-day SASSETA-accredited courses for advanced defensive and offensive (VIP protection) driving as well as off-road driving and vehicle recovery. There are also 1 to 3 day courses that are non-credit bearing for all types of vehicles. These include advanced defensive driving with light or heavy vehicles, skidpan training, high performance driving and off-road driving and vehicle recovery. Pre and post training assessments are also offered.
