Aston Martin’s new all-electric RapidE
Aston Martin’s new all-electric RapidE
An all-electric RapidE sedan concept has just been given the go ahead for production.
Earlier this year the British automaker signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) towards the creation of a partnership with LeEco. This was to aid the development of a production version of the Aston Martin all-electric RapidE concept.
Aston Martin has confirmed today that the first all-electric RapidE will go into production in 2019. TheRapidE will have an initial limited run of only 155 units.
As part of the company’s Second Century Plan, it aligns with the low- and zero-emission vehicle strategy.
The RapidE is based on the forthcoming Rapide AMR concept. It will have the four-door sports car look while having the dynamics of the Rapide S. Of course, an all-electric powertrain replaces the 6.0-litre V12 engine. Further engine and vehicle specifics will be released at a later stage. However, the RapidE “will offer a unique driving experience of a kind not experienced before in an Aston Martin.”
Dr Andy Palmer, Aston Martin President and CEO, noted the milestone of this occasion of the first all-electric car Aston Martin since its concept introduction in 2015.
“RapidE represents a sustainable future in which Aston Martin’s values of seductive style and supreme performance don’t merely co-exist alongside a new zero-emission powertrain, but are enhanced by it. The internal combustion engine has been at the heart of Aston Martin for more than a century and will continue to be for years to come. RapidE will showcase Aston Martin’s vision, desire and capability to successfully embrace radical change, delivering a new breed of car that stays true to our ethos and delights our customers.”
Williams Advanced Engineering will continue to assist the automaker with the complex task of engineering integration. It is the same company that worked on the original concept.
