A green light for green Porsche Mission e – first all-electric Porsche on its way

A green light for green Porsche Mission e – first all-electric Porsche on its way

Author - Author

Just another concept car that will never go into production?  Just a bunch of exciting shapes and far-fetched ideas which will never make it past the car show stand?  Not this one:  Porsche has given the green light for its first all-electric car.

Porsche Mission e gets green light

The possibility of putting the Porsche Mission e into production is not another far-fetched concept car idea.  The car shown may have been called a concept study and named “Porsche Mission e”, but ignore the name and this could be closer to reality than you think.

Look at the current Porsche Panamera – a large 4-door curvy fastback sports sedan.  Porsche is already selling e-hybrid models of its Panamera and Cayenne.  The high centre console with array of switches?  Already present in Panamera, Cayenne, Cayman and 911.  Matrix LED headlights… old news at Porsche.

And lets not forget Porsche already built its Porsche 918 Spyder – a hypercar, using hybrid electric power (sold out production, all snapped up).  This year’s Le Mans race victor was the Porsche 919 hybrid, which used magnet synchronous electric motors.  Also, Porsche is an innovative car company, and its engineering prowess means it will want to push the electric car envelope.

Instruments will be operated intuitively by eye-tracking, touch-free gesture control, and holograms.

Shocking ecstatic statistics

Porsche announced that its first 100% electric has been given the green light.  Yes, the first totally eco-green Porsche will be built, and the company is serious:  it is investing around R 700 million Euros, and creating more than 1000 new jobs.  Part of the expansion required is to build electric motors and an enlarged paint shop.  So they are very serious.

This Porsche Mission e is on a mission to buzz along on pure e – its pure-electric drive system produces over 600 hp (over 440kW), has a 500 km driving range, needs just 15 minutes charging time for 80% capacity, and will accelerate to 100km/h in less than 3.5 seconds.  These numbers mean all the usual all-electric car objections, dismissals and fears (such as performance, range anxiety, recharge time) have been swept out of even the most sceptic minds.
