Introduced in 1989, the Subaru Legacy is Subaru Fuji Heavy Industries flagship car. Produced until 1994 as a compact sedan, it was re- introduced as a mid-size vehicle to compete against offerings from Honda, Toyota and Nissan. Due to growing demand in the crossover SUV segment, the Legacy Outback was released in 1996 and has since split off into its own model range. Since its inception, the Legacy has always offered the All-Wheel Drive powertrain with the unmistakable flat-four boxer engine.
