Haval is a division of Great Wall Motors (GWM). GWM sells SUVs under the Haval brand. Haval timeline In 2002 Haval created an SUV fever in China when it launched a model that was priced at just over 80,000 yuan. In 2003, GWM became a sales champion in the Chinese SUV market and retained that title for some consecutive years. GWM launched a crossover model in 2005 named as the Haval CUV. Also in 2005, Haval was honoured as the "CCTV Independent SUV of the Year" and displayed its professional quality. In 2006, a high-pressure common-rail diesel engine that was electronically-controlled and developed with Bosch was put into production and into Haval models. In 2007 the Haval CUV was honoured as the ‘CCTV Best Independent SUV Brand of 2006’. Haval defended and obtained the manufacturer title in the 2008 Taklimakan Rally. In 2009 Haval gained the right of free sales in EU countries when the the Haval H5 won "Whole Vehicle Type Approval”. By 2010 Haval had managed to independently develop a 2.0T diesel engine. GWM's established a new plant in Tianjin which began operating in August 2011 around which time the Haval H6 was launched. By December that year the Haval H6 was honoured with the title of "Chinese SUV of 2012”. 2012 had several notable occasions for the brand. Early in the year the Haval Dakar Team completed 6th in the overall standings. This came after only competing three times in the rally. The Haval H6 was honored as the "CCTV Independent SUV of 2011”. It also received a five-star rating in the C-NCAP (Chinese car safety assessment program) collision test. In October 2006 Haval became the first SUV brand to land on Sansha Island and the Arctic. This displayed its character. In December Haval reported annual sales of 280,000 units and remained as the top selling SUV brand for the 10th consecutive year. In 2013 Haval went on to reclaim its title for top domestic SUV sales for the 11th consecutive year. Its Haval H6 took more awards; the CCTV SUV of 2012 and the 15th Gold Award for China Design Patent. Also in 2013, Haval hit sales of over 1 million units and was seen in the light of a deserving SUV expert. Haval continued to compete in rally and completed in 4th position and was also the only Chinese team to compete. Year after year, Haval continues to add accolades to their name.
