Is the Mazda2 good for new drivers? Here’s our verdict.

The small car offers SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY said to unlock quick-witted agility and outstanding fuel economy, it also has a superb engine and gearbox combination, and not forgetting a good list of standard spec.

Why we picked the Mazda2?

With small cars come lower expenses. Firstly, they are cheaper to purchase than large vehicles. Secondly, insurance payments will be lower. Thirdly, their smaller engines, are – by and large – more fuel-efficient, thereby saving you money at the pumps. For a car in its class, it is exceptionally built and powered by a 1.5 petrol that puts out 82kW or a 1.5-litre turbodiesel engine that puts out 77kW. 

The Mazda2 is good for new drivers because it is a superb little small car. Despite its size, the car is fun and entertaining even though it is practical. Furthermore, it is reliable, offers value, and a five-star NCAP Euro safety rating. It's also equipped with a full complement of airbags (driver and passenger) and electronic safety systems which include Mazda’s Active Driving Display, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Monitoring, traction control and a rearview camera and park assistance radar. 

Value also shines through a good sound system, a navigation system, a superb aircon, and steering wheel controls for various features. It comes as equipped as some executive vehicles in classes above it.

Of course, the Mazda2 does have its disadvantages which is rear-passenger legroom and a relatively small boot. But for someone starting out, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
