Yamaha’s Mandela Day charity run

Yamaha Motorcycles SA will again support the Soweto Motorbike School’s charity run for International Nelson Mandela Day.

This year’s run will be held on Saturday 14 July. Bikers will meet at World of Yamaha and depart on the ride at 9:00.

The organisers are asking bikers for non-perishable donations. The donations can be dropped off at World of Yamaha. The run will end at SKY (Soweto Kliptown Youth), 49 Station Road, Kliptown, Soweto.

The programme for the ride is as follows:

8:00 – Riders to start arriving at World of Yamaha where coffee, tea and biscuits will be served.

Riders to place non-perishable foods in truck.

9:00 – Alfred (King Donut) to open proceedings

• Prayer by Bishop Maphonga
• Introduction of biking club leaders
• Peter Wilkins of Yamaha Motorcycles to hand over donation to Muthumuni Corporate Gifts with Mike Hardy-Brown, MD of Yamaha SA
• Thanks to sponsors for donations toward SKY (Soweto Kliptown Youth) by Alfred
• Rider’s briefing by Blaza (South Africa Road Marshall head) for route and safety procedures

9:30 – Bikers to line up behind the National Traffic Police and SAPS Flying Squad

9:45 – Mass ride to commence to FNB Stadium, where group will meet up with the Soweto BMW Drifters where a short display will take place. From the FNB Stadium, bikers will leave toward Vilakazi Street, pass the Orlando Towers, then pass the University of Johannesburg (Soweto Campus). At Maponya Mall riders will stop to regroup.

The ride will then proceed over the railway toward Kliptown. The Police Brass Band will welcome bikers as they enter Walter Sisulu Square. People travelling by car must park at Walter Sisulu Square in the car parking area, where there will be crime-prevention units on guard.

Bikers and Police units will ride in convoy to SKY (Soweto Kliptown Youth) via Kliptown Railway Station. Pedestrians will be able to walk across the pedestrian bridge to SKY where representatives will welcome the bikers and police convoy. Donations will be handed over here.
