Are bikes a good investment?

Buying a Bike

It is important to note that very few vehicles ever become a true investment in the sense that its value will grow over time enabling you to sell it at a profit.

But investing in a motorcycle could very well be a wise thing to do – if you can afford it, of course.

If you live in a city and have a long commute to work and back, a motorcycle will save you money and time. You don’t have to speed to get to work quicker on a bike than in a car. Because you are allowed to “lane-split” (riding between cars), you will get there quicker.

And if you ride a bike halfway decently, you will also get better fuel consumption than with a car– hence saving money.

But, apart from these practical reasons, a motorcycle is also a fun mode of travel. Riding gives you a feeling of freedom and, even in winter, being exposed to the elements makes you feel more alive. And if you bought your bike to save money and time on your commute that doesn’t mean you can’t use it over the weekend – or holidays – to have fun with.

Just like any investment, you must be able to afford it. But if you can afford it, a bike will be an investment in making life more fun. And, of course, more practical.
