A dream within reach - Harley Davidson Rent-to-Own
When it comes to globally recognised legacy brands few stand shoulder to shoulder with Harley Davidson. It is said that every biker needs to own or ride a Harley at least once and that is now even more possible than ever with Harley Davidson's Rent-to-own programme.
The dream can be yours
One of the most globally recognised brands is celebrating 120 years of two-wheeled freedom. Harley Davidson Motorcycles was formed in 1903 in Milwaukee Wisconsin by William S Harley and Arthur Davidson. The company has survived two World Wars, multiple financial depressions and intense competition from the East but has soldiered on and created one of the most valuable brands in the world. Locally, the brand's distribution has changed hands a few times but is now run by true enthusiasts who live for the brand.

Harley Davidson South Africa only has a few retail outlets now but with a mission to get more people than ever onto these iconic machines, it has come up with a fantastic way of doing just that, the Rent-to-Own program.
What is Rent-To-Own?
Although this is not a new idea, the Rent-To-Own programme is exactly that, a customer will go to a dealership and engage into a rental agreement which will see them roll out with their own piece of Americana. With Harley Davidson having moved into premium brand territory, the initial purchase price has discouraged many potential customers from taking the plunge into Harley ownership and this program seeks to address that by increasing a rider's options.
Why rent when you can just finance?
There are many reasons why a rent-to-own agreement may be more suitable for consumers than traditional financing. When you sign up for the program you aren't limited by how many kilometers you can ride, payments are comparable to traditional financing but insurance is included in the price as well and you can even customise your rental before you ride away with it.
If life gets in the way you can cancel the agreement and return the bike or you can end the agreement early by paying up the balance and keep it. Another great feature of Rent-To-Own is that you can upgrade your chosen ride every 18 months, this means that you aren't tied down to one bike for a traditional finance agreement period.
How does it work?
Anyone can try out Rent-to-Own. A customer will approach one of the participating dealerships and apply. The same requirements as traditional financing are needed, credit checks, necessary paperwork, affordability checks and so on. Once the customer has been vetted they can pay their security deposit, choose their bike, accessorise it if they want, and can be out the door in 2-3 days. It is as simple as that.
The bikes are insured and have trackers fitted before dispatch so customers have peace of mind on that front. After 18 months you can upgrade to a new model or change it up completely and go for another type of Harley if you so choose keeping in mind that pricing will fluctuate when different models are involved. You have a single static monthly payment that isn't affected by interest rates.
What's the catch?
Although it sounds too good to be true, it is 100% legit, this is Harley Davidson South Africa wanting bikers of all races and ages to try a Harley and fall in love with the brand the same way they did. The current crop of Harley Davidson machines are top-quality premium products and an important thing to remember here is that it's more than just a bike brand, its a lifestyle brand that brings people together in ways that no other bike brand has been able to capture to the extent that HD has. There are no hidden fees or unforseen charges, what you see is what you get and the best part is that there aren't any banks involved!
At the risk of sounding like a Harley Davidson advert, we here at AutoTrader Bikes are enthused by any program that enables consumers to get onto a bike and makes motorcycle ownership easier to acquire.
I want in!.. Where do I go?
You can head over to your closest participating Harley Davidson dealership. Cape Town and Durban have been offering the program for a while now but here in Johannesburg, HD Mzansi and Gold Rand will be coming online soon.
