Just like any other vehicle that has to be registered for use on public roads, a motorcycle has a licence that is valid for 12 months. And just like any other registered vehicle, its licence must be renewed after a year.

The renewal process is the same, whether you are renewing the licence of a car, trailer or motorcycle. The best advice is to renew the licence before it expires, as the 21-day grace period does not apply anymore. If you renew the licence after it has expired, you will have to pay a penalty in addition to the licence fee.

The licence can be renewed at any licensing centre, and also at most post offices. The post office might the easiest for you, because there is a dedicated counter for vehicle-licence renewals.

Take along a copy of your ID and proof of residence, as well as your bike’s registration document. And to be safe, take cash to pay the licence fees, as not all post offices accept card payments for this.
