Honda Quest semi-finalists announced

Honda Motorcycles Southern Africa, along with Specialised Adventures, have selected 30 applicants to attend the Quest Boot Camp that will take place in Cape Town from 1 to 3 October 2018.

 More than 1 000 entries, only 30 selected

After meticulously working through more than a thousand entries, the organisers of Honda Quest True Adventure have announced the 30 semi-finalists who will attend the Quest Boot Camp.

They are: Almero de Villiers (from Somerset West), André Labuschagne (Bultfontein), André Stephan le Roes (Swellendam), Arnold Jonker (Maitland), Claude Deyzel (Cape Town), Denzil Lawrie (Sabie), Dewald Coertze (London), Donovan van de Langenberg (Bothasig), Frederick Petrus Vermeulen (Namibia), Hannes Dippenaar (Johannesburg), Henk Kotzee (Uitzicht), Jacobus Herbst (Victoria West), Jacobus Stephanus Lubbe (Bloemfontein), Jana Botha (from Kyalami, the only lady in the group of 30), Jesse Hardy (Nelspruit), Johannes Francois Petrus Ebersóhn (Pretoria), Jonathan Tee (Kirstenbosch), Josef Daniël Alberts (Pretoria), Leon Johannes Rademan (Sunningdale), Lucas Stals (Plattekloof Glen), Mohammed Yoonus Moosa (Tzaneen), Mojaki Richard Rammoneng (Brakpan), Murray Ross Campbell (Cape Town), Pieter Laubscher (Bloemfontein), Pierre du Toit Breytenbach (Pretoria), Pierre Ludwick (Pretoria), Sithembiso Khoza (Noordwyk), Stephan van der Merwe (Salt Rock), Stephanus Jacobus Reyneke (Waterlake Farm) and Viaan Chris Bosch (Plattekloof).

The semi-finalists will undergo a rigorous evaluation process. The organisers will be looking for a combination of skills – from riding ability and a positive attitude as well as the ability to function in a team.

“We are looking for the true adventure riders of Southern Africa,” says Barend Fouché, head of Honda Motorcycles South Africa. “Men and women of courage who are adventurous, don’t shy away from physical and mental challenges, take the initiative and function as part of a team.

“Quest is not a race or a rally, it is an adventure expedition, designed to test human endurance and adaptability. Finalists will be tested on their adventure-motorcycle riding, mechanical skills, as well as their endurance, courage, and resilience against the African terrain.”

After Boot Camp the organisers will announce the 14 finalists who will take part in the Quest True Adventure, a 10-day, 2 500km off-road expedition in the Northern and Western Cape starting on October 18. The participants will compete in seven teams of two riders each.

“Apart from carrying the title of winning Quest True Adventure 2018, the members of the winning team will each win the Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin that they used during the Quest True Adventure event,” says Fouché.
