BMW HP4 Race – a prototype motorbike with a carbon-fibre main frame and rims

We’ve had cars with carbon-fibre main frames (chassis) like the Alfa Romeo 4C and BMW i8, but what about a motorbike?

BMW Motorrad has just shown an advanced prototype of its highest-performance BMW HP4 superbike, which it announced as the BMW HP4 Race… with a carbon-fibre main frame.

It was initially left open as to how far the advanced prototype reflected what the final motorcycle would look like.  The only definitive information provided by the Stephan Schaller, President BMW Motorrad, related to the frame and wheels: “The HP4 Race will feature the full carbon fibre main frame and carbon fibre rims as shown here.  We will reveal more about this model next spring.”

Yes, not only a carbon-fibre main frame, but also carbon-fibre rims.  This means this superbike will be superlight and strong.
 
It is also certain that the BMW HP4 Race will be manufactured by hand in an exclusive limited series, and supplied in the second half of 2017.

BMW S 1000 RR is superbike available now in SA

The BMW HP4 production bike was available in South Africa for a limited time. 

The current BMW superbike available in South Africa is the BMW S 1000 RR, priced at R 229 990, which includes the Race package (DTC, Riding Mode Pro and cruise control), Dynamic package (Gearshift Assist Pro, DDC, heated grips, LED indicators) and Design Option wheels.  Items listed as options are forged wheels priced at R 19 900, and Motorsport colours of Light White, Lupin Blue or Racing Red, at R 4 200 extra.
