2018 RFS Bike Econorun cancelled

This year’s RFS Bike Econorun has been cancelled because not enough entries had been received by the cut-off date.
“Ideally, 60 entries would make the event worthwhile for organisers and sponsors,” says Francois Jordaan, clerk of the course for the RFS Bike Econorun.
“Normally by this time we would have received 40 paid entries and the rest would have been in time for the event. But with fewer than that confirmed, we can simply not afford to spend all the money on bookings, trophies, printing and fuel to only then realise that the event was not well enough attended.”
He says that as organising club, the Pretoria Motor Club (PMC) could simply not afford to risk losing RFS Auto as a sponsor after thirteen years and a successful run of 38 years by presenting an event they would not be able to prove had enough value.
The event has 12 classes for bikes and would have taken place over the weekend of 24 August. The starting point was The Carousel casino north of Pretoria and would have followed a route through Limpopo down to Tzaneen and to the overnight stop at Hotel Numbi in Hazyview. The second day’s route would have been a loop that ended back at the hotel.
“Very few events in any form of motorsport still caters for social, let alone family fun, while it still serves an important function. The good news is that RFS Auto has not withdrawn its sponsorship from the event and has committed for next year’s event,” says Jordaan.
