Hi there
Your concern about the T5's fuel consumption is entirely legitimate. While we haven't tested an XC60 T5, the T6 we reviewed returned mid-12 l/100 km figures on a road trip, and the V90 CC T6 struggled to better 10 l/100 km.
Sure, these two are both one level up from the T5 in terms of performance, but they use the same basic engine (albeit with the addition of a supercharger to widen the power band). In contrast, the S90 D5 sedan returned a commendable 7.2 l/100 km in comparable conditions.
We'd definitely suggest going for a D5 (or even a D4) if fuel efficiency is a priority, especially as a D5 actually offers quite a lot more torque than the T5, so it will be nicer to drive on real roads as well. The D4 and D5 power units are very smooth and decently refined, so they offer the optimum combination of frugality and usable performance.
Hope this helps!
