Hi there!
The Suzuki Swift Sport of that generation (ZC32S) has earned a reputation for durability and affordable long-term ownership. If you look after it, it won't cost you a lot to run. These cars are getting older now, so try to look for the lowest-mileage example you can find with a full dealer service history, and then just stick to the manufacturer's maintenance regimen.
They're also not heavy on fuel, so who know where that rumour came from. We've run various long-term Swift Sports and returned low-6 litre/100 km averages without even trying to save fuel. Those long-term tests also showed up their reliability, as we took them all to track days for some fun.
In comparison to the Renault, parts availability is very good and affordable, but dealership servicing tends to be expensive (on par with the rest of the industry).
Hope this helps!
