Hi there!
As far as our research shows, the EA211 engine as fitted to the Golf 7 1.0TSI is largely free of serious design flaws and manufacturing defects, although it does suffer from intake port carbon build-up with age. The previous engine's troublesome cam chain has been replaced by a more-conventional belt, although the new belt system does require special tools when the time comes for replacement.
As for the rest of the car, it should provide you with good service for many years - just keep up with VW's scheduled maintenance and it should be fine. It's also important to ensure that the software on your car is updated regularly, as VW periodically issues new engine control software to improve efficiency and reliability. Going for a manual gearbox is a good call, by the way: it avoids the troublesome DSG and eliminates these cars' main failure point.
Hope this helps!
