Hi there
The first thing you need to know is that French performance cars are notoriously expensive to run, due to the large number of model-specific parts they use in their cars. That immediately discounts the Renault RSs, especially those derivatives with dual-clutch (EDC) gearboxes (which are problem prone in themselves).
As for Opel: Their OPCs are nice to drive, but not very reliable - gearbox problems are well-known on high-powered Opels, so, whicle they handle amazingly, their gearboxes do present some issues. In addition, Opel parts are extraordinarily expensive these days, so we cannot in good conscience recommend any Opel to a used-car buyer.
Onto the GTIs: You'll want to avoid any Polo with a DSG transmission, because those get very expensive to maintain even in the short term. The Golf 5/6 GTI is better in this regard, but you'll still want to choose one with a manual gearbox if you want to keep the car for a long time.
As for the Fords, a Fiesta ST is huge fun and pretty quick, but not very well-made, so minor issues (usually electrical) will surface periodically. It's a solid choice though, and big fun for the money. The Focus ST is even quicker, and doesn't appear to suffer as many electrical faults.
Regarding BMWs: If you can find a first-generation 130i with a manual gearbox, buy it! They are great to drive, more than quick enough to see off most other "hot" cars of this size, and are rare enough to actually start appreciating in value in the future. They're also mechanically solid, but be aware that servicing and maintenance could become expensive in the long run.
Hope this helps!
