AutoTrader SA has a useful service to estimate your car's value: simply visit our car valuation tool, enter your car's details, and it will give you a good idea about the real-world value of your car. Expect a trade-in value of about R 158 000 and a resale value of about R 186 000 for a Scirocco 2.0T DSG of this age and mileage, depending on the car's condition, executed repairs/maintenance and fitted accessories/options.
In general, you'll get more for a car in a private sale, although there are some risks and added effort involved. Auction prices are usually much lower than even normal trade-in prices, so you won't get the best deal if you decide to sell your car on auction. Your best bet (if you don't find the idea of selling privately appealing) would be to trade it in at a dealership - you won't get as much for the car as you would in a private sale, but it is less of a hassle and entails fewer risks.
