Hi there
In your case, we'd recommend considering the newer Everest over an older Fortuner, simply because its lower mileage should give you a longer service life before requiring major attention. In fact, you may even get the benefit of the remaining warranty and service plan, ensuring peace of mind for the first period of your ownership. Add the Ford's (somewhat) lower risk of theft, and the choice becomes even easier.
There's one thing you need to remember, though: neither of these vehicles will be anywhere near as lively to drive as your Journey, because their diesel engines don't have similar power and their body weights are considerably higher than the Dodge's. So, while you'll score on go-anywhere versatility, you'll also lose out on performance. With this in mind, we'd also suggest you consider a used Kia Sorento or Hyundai Santa Fé 7-seater, because they're much more car-like than the bakkie-based SUVs, and just as practical. Alternatively, you could also look at a Kia Grand Sedona or Hyundai H-1 2.5 CRDi - they both more space than any SUV, can be had with lots of luxury features, and are reasonably priced in the used market as well.
Hope this helps!
