Between these two options, we'd go for the Kombi T6 as the better all-rounder, but the Tourneo also has considerable appeal. That only applies if they're both equipped with manual gearboxes, though - if they're automatics, the Tourneo would be the best choice instead - the VW's DSG (dual-clutch auto) would likely prove to be more expensive to run in long-term ownership than the Ford's torque-converter automatic.
May we also suggest that you consider a used Hyundai H-1 for your needs? They're reasonably priced (especially in pre-facelift form), has an available 2.5-litre turbodiesel and automatic, masses of cabin space, a comfy ride, and pretty luxurious trimmings in high-trim specification.
