Hi there
BMW used a variety of materials in the construction of their cars, mostly in an attempt to reduce body weight, but also to meet specific crash test requirements. As an example, the E9x 3 Series had an aluminium bonnet, with steel fenders on the sedan and plastic fenders on the coupé. The 5 Series from the E60-on, as well as the G20 3 Series, has aluminium bonnets and fenders, and some lightweight M models had judicious application of carbon fibre. It varies from model to model, but the general rule of thumb is that the more-upmarket BMWs used more exotic materials.
Hope this helps!
